Commercial Roofing in Tomball, TX
Tomball has a genuinely old commercial core and a very new industrial edge, and the roofs in each need almost nothing in common.

Commercial roofing in Tomball covers the oilfield equipment and manufacturing along State Highway 249 and Business 249, the medical campus around Tomball Regional, the retail along FM 2920, and the historic commercial core on Main Street. About forty minutes from the yard, at the outer edge of our radius.
Tomball is a real city with its own building department, which distinguishes it from several of its unincorporated neighbours.
The local problem
Why commercial roofs in Tomball fail the way they do
Three quite separate building stocks in one small city.
Oilfield and industrial manufacturing. Tomball has a long-established concentration of oilfield equipment manufacture and service along the 249 corridor. These are working buildings: metal-framed shops with overhead cranes, heavy roof-mounted ventilation and exhaust, and a lot of vibration transmitted into the structure. Vibration matters for roofing in a way people do not expect, because it works fasteners loose over time and opens details that would stay closed on a quiet building. We check fastener condition on Tomball manufacturing roofs more carefully than we do elsewhere.
Medical. The hospital campus and the surrounding medical office development is heavily penetrated, noise and odour sensitive, and cannot be disrupted. Same constraints as Bellaire medical, plus the additional requirement on a hospital campus that infection control has a view on anything generating dust.
Historic downtown. The Main Street core has genuinely old commercial buildings, some of them masonry with parapets on all sides and roofs that have been patched by successive owners for decades. These are the most interesting and the most frustrating roofs we work on: multiple layered systems, no drainage design to speak of, parapet and through-wall flashing problems that are as much masonry as roofing, and frequently a coal tar or asphalt built-up system underneath everything. Core cuts are essential here, and they routinely surprise people.
Tomball retains substantial tree cover, which puts it in the same drain-blockage category as Spring, and it took wind and tree damage during the May 16, 2024 derecho.

Permitting
Permits, codes and windstorm rules in Tomball
Commercial roof work in Tomball is permitted through City of Tomball. The City of Tomball issues its own commercial building permits and runs its own inspections. Work in the historic Main Street area may additionally be subject to design or preservation considerations affecting anything visible from the street, which on a parapet building can include edge metal and coping. Buildings with a Tomball address outside the city limits fall under Harris County instead.
Tomball is outside the TDI windstorm zone
The Texas Department of Insurance designated catastrophe area covers fourteen coastal counties plus the part of Harris County east of Highway 146, which inside city limits means La Porte, Morgan’s Point, Pasadena, Seabrook and Shoreacres. Tomball is west of that line, so no WPI-8 windstorm certificate is required on commercial roof work here.
Worth knowing, because it comes up: if a contractor tells you your Tomball building needs windstorm certification, they are either confused or selling you something. The boundary is published on the TDI catastrophe area map and you can check it yourself in about a minute.

Roofing questions from Tomball building owners
Our shop has an overhead crane and the roof keeps opening up at the details. Why?
Vibration. A crane-served manufacturing building transmits movement into the structure continuously, and over years that works mechanical fasteners loose and opens details that would stay sealed on a quiet building. The answer is not a different membrane, it is detailing that accommodates movement, more frequent fastener inspection, and in some cases a fully adhered rather than mechanically attached system so there is less to work loose.
Do you work on the old Main Street buildings?
Yes, and we cut cores before quoting because what is on those decks is genuinely unpredictable. Multiple layered systems going back decades is normal, and the leaks are frequently at the parapet and through-wall flashings rather than in the roof field, which makes them as much a masonry problem as a roofing one. We will tell you honestly where the boundary is rather than repairing roofing details that were never the cause.
Is Tomball too far for you to service properly?
It is the outer edge of our radius at about forty minutes, and we work here regularly and will say so plainly if a job is better served by somebody closer. Where the distance shows is emergency response, where realistically we are two to two and a half hours out under normal conditions and longer after a storm. For planned work it makes no practical difference.
